It was a wet and wild night in Ballynoe on Friday and unfortunately, St Paul’s resilience proved too much for Bright. The Bright men got off to a promising start with an early point from Sam Dinu and a fantastic long-range score from Jack Mc Laughlin settled the side into what was always going to be a scrappy game, giving the weather conditions.
Goalkeeper Michael Farrand had to be taken off following a rough tackle at the midpoint of the first half, but a brave Pearse McCarthy stepped in and made a few solid saves to keep St Paul’s at bay.
Gareth George scored Bright’s 3rd point in the 30th minute leading to a half time score of Bright 0:03 to St Paul’s 0:02.
A slow start to the second half from both teams produced only 2 more Bright points, both from star player Gareth George. With 10 minutes to play only 2 points separated the teams at 0:05 to 0:03. Solid performances from Calum Laird, Cormac Mc Laughlin and Seamus Tumelty looked good enough to hold the Holywood men long enough to seal the win, but with only 8 minutes on the clock, St Paul’s took a 1 point lead with a goal from Dan Eastwood.
The last few minutes of the game were played in Bright’s half of the pitch and the few chances to level the score went sailing wide.
